Mountain Island Lake ~ Memorial Weekend Bass

Spotted Bass marked up from spawning.  About 47 bass total were caught, including a striper, all released.

Beautiful sunrise morning, but later things got a bit too crowded for fisherman.
Bass hungry.  Congrats to Jake, who landed a topwater stiper, and spotted and largemouth bass for an MIL SLAM !

Ladyfish popping in the surf. Hilton Head Island morning.

Upon arriving at the beach, the gulls were going crazy, and the water was popping with fish.  With hopes of Spanish Mackerel, the spoons went in the water.   The school turned out to be Ladyfish.  Followed the action north for a mile or so; cast a few, bike to cath up to them, etc...  Caught 7 Ladies, and a few more broke off.  Fun morning.

Bass and Beavers on Mother's Day at Mountain Island Lake

...the boys today caught 45 bass, a combination of largemouth and spotted, mostly on white jigs, swimbaits, and spinnerbaits.

56F air and 60F water and fog in the morn opened up to sunshine and 80F air temps.  Water still a bit chilly for this time of year.

It has been said: "Never trust a beaver."  This is one of 3 beavers we saw today, 2 of which slapped their tails at us.  A slapping beaver tail is usually bad luck for fisherman, but these beavers did not have their beaver mojo tuned in to the right frequency today.  Fish were caught right after the slaps.  The beavers dove underwater, and gosh, can they hold their breath.

Early May Fishing at Hilton Head

On the water at 7:30am.  Sun was already high in sky.

Spotted Reef Shark? was a blast to reel in.
Bluefish, kingfish, and Sharks were nibbling this morning.  The weather is still a bit off-kilter.  Water was about 67F...kinda chilly for this time of year..
